understanding your condition

we begin by taking time to learn about your condition. we ask questions about your bladder, voiding, bowel and sexual function. we also want to learn about your goals, barriers and concerns. we use this information to guide your physical examinations and treatment plan.

the pelvic examination

prior to performing any examination, we always describe exactly what we are looking for and why. you have the right to deny us permission for any part of the examination at any point.

the pelvic examination involves both an external and internal exam of the pelvic floor.

we may start by assessing the lower back, hips and outer pelvis that may be contributing to your pelvic floor symptoms. we also may assess your breathing pattern and check for abdominal muscle tension and separation depending on what we're looking for. we then visually examine your external genitalia, checking for any signs of tissue abnormalities and your ability to contract and relax the pelvic floor muscles.

the internal examination involves the gentle use of a well-lubricated gloved finger to assess the strength, endurance, coordination, tenderness, pain and/or tension of your pelvic floor muscles. no speculum is used at any point during the exam.

forming a treatment plan

based on the results of the examination, we will work with you to create a customised treatment plan to address any dysfunction.

going at your own pace

you can expect our compassion and unwavering support at every step of your journey. the length of the treatment plan varies depending on the case. for some, it may take 6-8 weeks, for others it may take months.
