I first learnt about pelvic floor physiotherapy, also known as 'women's health physiotherapy' in 2017. it was like any other day, sitting through university lectures desperately trying to finish my masters so I could finally start practicing physiotherapy. the lecturer had presented a case study of a woman who had never been able to reach penetration due to excruciating entrance pain every time she and her partner would attempt to have sex. she had been referred to multiple specialists throughout their relationship, including psychologists, sex therapists, gynecologists...but never a pelvic floor physiotherapist...until 9 years later.
it took 6 months from the time she saw a pelvic physiotherapist till she was able to reach pleasurable, penetrative sex without pain.
it was really that day that I decided who I wanted to be.
I wanted to create a space for women to feel safe and empowered by their own stories, and give these women the tools and guidance to treat silent conditions that have huge impacts on their lives.
since then, my clinical experiences have spanned a wide variety of settings including hospital maternity wards, perinatal outpatient care, post-op rehabilitation and musculoskeletal physiotherapy in private practice.
this has ultimately led to my specialisation and expertise in perinatal care and holistic pelvic health for women at all stages of life.
the women.
